The Cleveland Cello Society (CCS) is thrilled to present in recital the recently-arrived new Principal Cellist of The Cleveland Orchestra, Mark Kosower. Joining him at the piano will be his wife, Jee-Won Oh. This will take place on Monday, September 27, 7:30 PM, at Harkness Chapel, 11200 Bellflower Road, in University Circle. Tickets -- all sold only at the door -- will be $15 for Standard seats, $50 for Premium seats, and $100 for Patron seats. ● October 3, 2:00 pm (Sunday): Scholarship Winners' Recital
Guaranteed to be an inspiring afternoon. Come hear the winners of the CCS 2010 Scholarship Competition: Collegiate Division: Madeline Kabat; Agnew Prize for Bach: Eric Tinkerhess; Senior Division: Nathanael Matthews; Junior Division: Sameer Apte and Braden McConnell; Elementary Division: Bethany Bobbs. Venue: the Music Settlement, 11125 Magnolia Drive (in University Circle). Tickets: $5 at door, free to CCS members.
● November 7, 2:30 pm (Sunday): i Cellisti! 2010
This is our very popular annual concert, which provides the prize money for the CCS Scholarship Competition. This year we have invited jazz cellist Matt Brubeck to join us for an afternoon of cello ensemble music, featuring works by Dave and Matt Brubeck. Cellists from all over northeast Ohio will participate. Come hear a concert like no other, and support a wonderful cause! Venue: Forest Hill Presbyterian Church, 3031 Monticello Blvd. in Cleveland Heights. Tickets: $10 suggested donation at the door, or consider supporting i Cellisti! 2010 as a $100 patron. Arrive early for best seats.
● January 23, 2011, 2-5 pm (Sunday): Cello Masterclass Festival
A great opportunity for all aspiring cellists in grades 6 through 12. Cleveland is blessed with many wonderful cello teachers, and this is your day to perform in a masterclass for one of them! Cellists currently scheduled to give classes include Catharina Meints (Oberlin College/Conservatory, Cleveland Orchestra), Mark Kosower (new Principal Cellist of The Cleveland Orchestra), and Paul Kushious (Cleveland Orchestra). It's fascinating to get another viewpoint, learn a few new tips, and hear words of wisdom from other professionals. A pianist will be provided for each class. To participate, cello students must be recommended by their private teacher. The afternoon will conclude with a reception allowing Cleveland area cellists a little mix and mingle time. ● March13, 2011, 2pm (Sunday): A Son’s Recollections of Antonio Janigro
Many of you may not know that Cleveland Cello Society Board member Damir Janigro is the son of one of the great cellists of the 20th century, Antonio Janigro. A neurologist at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Janigro will share historic recordings, film clips, and his own personal anecdotes in this one-of-a-kind program. Venue: the Music Settlement, 11125 Magnolia Drive (in University Circle). Tickets: $5 at the door, free to CCS members.
● April 17, 2011, noon – 5 pm (Sunday): The Annual CCS Scholarship Competition
Cellists of Northeast Ohio will compete for scholarships in four age categories: elementary, junior, senior, and collegiate. Application deadline: March 15, 2011.
