JUST COMPLETED EVENT:

September 18, Sunday, "Cellists of the Past" audio/video show. Our first Fall program was a very special one, presented by Gary Stucka, current cellist in the Chicago Symphony, and former cellist in The Cleveland Orchestra.  Gary provided a multi-media tour of important cellists of the 20th century, narrating screen-projected photographs and very rare antique video, accompanied by numerous audio samples.  Venue:  Judson Manor Ballroom

UPCOMING:

● January 8, Sunday, 2 pm: Scholarship Winners' Recital
Guaranteed, as always, to be an inspiring afternoon.  Come hear the winners of the CCS 2011 Scholarship Competition: Collegiate Division and the Agnew Prize for Bach: Christopher Irvine; Senior Division: Hannah Moses; Junior Division: Henry Shapard; Elementary Division: Matthew Fields.  Hear some of Ohio’s best young cellists!  Venue: The Music Settlement, 11125 Magnolia Drive (in University Circle), Cleveland.  Tickets: free to CCS members, $5 for non-members.

● February 5, Sunday, 2-4 pm: i Cellisti!  - featuring Pizzicato 4  Our very popular annual cello ensemble extravaganza expands this season to include a silent auction immediately after the concert.  Pizzicato 4, a cello quartet comprised of CCS members Nick Diodore, Heidi Albert, Ida Mercer, and Derek Snyder, will delight with a blend of contemporary sounds, from tangos to jazz to rock – as well as a spicy blend of classics.  Pizzicato 4 will be joined by a collection of Cleveland’s best young cellists for a grand finale cello choir that will be sure to enthrall.   And the silent auction will be like no other, featuring jewelry, woodworking, artwork, and a variety of handcrafts, all made by CCS members and friends.  Experiences and opportunities also will be auctioned: cello lessons, an afternoon of cello duets performed at a time and place of your choosing, a behind-the-scenes tour of a string repair and luthier shop, to list a few. Listen to a great concert of cello ensemble music, and then support a great cause: proceeds from ticket and auction sales provide the funds for the CCS Scholarships!  Venue: The Music Settlement, 11125 Magnolia Drive (in University Circle), Cleveland.  Tickets: $10 suggested donation at the door, or consider becoming a $100 i Cellisti! patron. Arrive early for best seats.

● April 22, Sunday, noon – 5 pm: Annual CCS Scholarship Competition  Cellists from all over Northeast Ohio will compete for scholarships in four age categories: elementary, junior, senior, and collegiate.    Entrants, please note that the application deadline is March 15, 2012 (see the CCS website, below, for details as the event approaches).  Venue: the Music Settlement, 11125 Magnolia Drive (in University Circle), Cleveland.  A small number of places will be offered at $25 to CCS members wishing to observe the auditions: call us if you are interested.
